Sources suggest that Parris' only concern is his reputation and Abigail's reputation would impact that. After Parris saw the girls dancing in the forest, he recognizes the possibility that the witchcraft he thought being practiced by his daughter and niece has originated in his own household, and he worries about the possible danger to his reputation if the townsfolk learn that the girls could be consorting with the devil. The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, is a dramatic re-enactment of the Salem Witch Trials in Massachusetts in the late 1600’s. It was first produced on stage in January 1953. Read more of the story here.
