The Great Gatsby takes place on Long Island in 1922. Fitzgerald finished writing it in 1923 and had it published in 1925. The book has been filmed five times to date: in 1926 by Herbert Brenon, in 1949 by Elliott Nugent, in 1974 by Jack Clayton, in 2000 by Robert Markowitz, and in 2011 by Baz Luhrmann.
Of interest, The Great Gatsby, directed by Baz Luhrmann and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, and Tobey Maguire will be released in theaters on May 10, 2013.
In April 2013, Tiffany & Co. unveiled windows at its Fifth Avenue store "inspired by" the film. The jewelry store also premiered "The Great Gatsby Collection" line of jewelry, which includes a headpiece, a brooche, a necklace, and four rings. One of the rings is platinum with a 5.25-carat diamond and priced at $875,000.
