“Ozymandias” is a political sonnet, however it does not only symbolizes the political power — the statue can be a metaphor for the pride and hubris of all of humanity, in any of its manifestations. Shelley employs the imperative mood in the line "Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair", for the irony to work. Imperative mood is used to express demands, instructions or requests.
