In Act 2 Scene 1, of William Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, Brutus is awake all night thinking about Caesar.
When Brutus is alone in his garden, he decides that Caesar must be assassinated to keep his growing power from turning him into a tyrant and to protect Roman democracy. The conspirators, Cassius, Casca, Decius, Cinna, Metellus, and Trebonius, visit Brutus and decide they will kill Caesar the next day at the Capitol. Brutus convinces them not to kill Antony because doing so would turn a sacrifice into a massacre.
It is believed that the play Julius Caesar was written in 1599 and then first performed between 1600 and 1601. The play's first time in print is thought to be in 1623.
Of interest, the Oregon Shakespeare Festival recently announced its 2015 season and a plan to produce all 37 plays in Shakespeare's canon starting in 2015 and ending in 2024. Learn more from Broadway World.
