Barbara Scott's The Life Guard, is about facing your problems and growing up. The character of the troubled teenager trys to get away from the burdens of life that bear down on him and from the place in life where he is trapped. The writer uses situational irony to show the struggles of the characters. The Life Guard tells the story of Chris, a detached teenager who is living on his own and battling his problems. His father suddenly appears after having left Chris years before. Chris hides his pain in his diving, perhaps because it’s the only way he can mask the hurt he feels inside. In his job as a lifeguard, Chris became friends with Mike, a boy who comes for free swim at the pool. During the course of the story, Mike’s parents die from a serious car accident. Mike settles in a long-term care facility and Chris helps in his recovery by inspiring him to come back to the pool. In author buzz, Harry Potter author JK Rowling will publish her second crime novel, titled The Silkworm, this summer. Read more at the Mirror.
