Traditionally, a haiku is a 17-syllable verse written in three lines, with five syllables in the first line, seven syllables in the second line, and five syllables in the third line. Here's an example: haiku_pattern.indd - haiku_pattern.pdf via kwout Haiku uses just a few words to catch a moment and create a picture in the reader's mind. It is like a small window into a scene which is much larger than itself. The essence of the haiku is more significant than the syllable counts of its lines, it does not rhyme and does not usually contain metaphors or similes. The arrangement of a haiku is meant to be a freeing and an overall inspirational event.
